Today is a day of pure celebration. First, we celebrate our mothers who have guided us through our youth and have been there for us every step of the way. Our mothers are our #1 FAN! They are the ones who hang on every pitch, endure every train, car, and bus ride. They sat in the frigid fall weather and sweat with us during hot summer days, all because they love us and Baseball.
This evening we also honor the greatest role model the children of New York have every known- Derek Jeter. How fitting that the man who graced the Big Apple with nothing but class, who knew that giving respect would earn "Re2Pect," will now join the other pinstripe legends in Monument Park. The Old Stadium may have been the "House That Ruth Built," but with everything #2 has done for the Yankees, the new one is undoubtedly Mr.Jeter's.
I have been fortunate to meet the man, speak with him, and now have kids play on the very same field where he stood in Yankees Stadium. And it is knowing that the Borough Cup will inspire the next Derek that drives me to bring this event to bigger and better heights. So for our friends who are with us and have been a part of the Borough Cup, tonight when they honor Derek Jeter at Yankee Stadium, just think- that could be me! Standing on the field at historic Yankee Stadium. Playing in the Borough Cup in the House That Derek Jeter Built. Ahh that is the dream.
